Course Overview
This course will provide background and introduction of the South African constitutional system. Focus will be placed on the contextual understanding of South Africa's constitutional democracy and how this impacts on the constitutional jurisprudence developed by the South African Constitutional Court. In light of this, the course will then turn to a discussion of specific topics in the Constitutional Court's jurisprudence, namely equality, socio-economic rights and political rights. In conclusion, we will consider some theoretical account of the jurisprudence discussed.
