This class will focus on analysis and writing in the law practice context through the handling of a hypothetical Social Security Disability appeal in a fictitious federal district court. Through a problem-solving approach, students will work on finding the governing law, applying it to case facts, and articulating the results in writing in a way acceptable in practice. The focus of the course will be on improving studentsí writing skills and ability to communicate to various audiences through writing. The multiple short writing assignments may include client letters, pleadings, inter-office memoranda, and motions and supporting memoranda. This course is open to second or third-year students wanting to improve their writing skills or practice litigation writing. While not a prerequisite, students may find taking Administrative Law helpful. The writing done for this course will not satisfy the Advanced Writing Requirement.
