Student Bar Association Honors Faculty, Staff

Outgoing Student Bar Association (SBA) president Lisa Pryor, ’13, presented awards for outstanding faculty member, adjunct faculty member, and staff member during an end of year luncheon on May 14.

Voted on by the entire student body, this year’s winners touched students in many different ways, from bringing years of practical experience to the classroom, to just keeping students safe on a daily basis.

This year’s winners are:

SBA Faculty Member of the Year:

Paula Monopoli
Professor of Law
Founding Director, Women Leadership & Equality Program

“Professor Monopoli is a dynamic and engaging individual who has provided numerous students with an excellent academic experience. She always tries to further students' understanding of legal, social, and research issues by not just telling students information, but by encouraging them to seek it out on their own,” said Alex Garnick, ’13.  “Professor Monopoli is an outstanding teacher and a wonderful mentor who truly provides a great contribution to the school community and its students through her passion and devotion.”

SBA Staff Member of the Year:

Claydee Bolden
Security Officer

“Ms. Claydee is the first face you see coming into the law school, and I wouldn't want to see anyone else,” said Pryor. “She is warm and inviting to all students, faculty and visitors -- she even tries to learn students' names. She makes sure we are all safe within the school. It has been a pleasure to know her.”

SBA Adjunct Faculty of the Year:

The Hon. Paul Grimm
Chief Magistrate Judge
United States District Court for the District of Maryland

“Judge Grimm brings the material to life in a way that I've never seen a professor do before. He is unbelievably knowledgeable about the rules of evidence and constantly amazes the class with his memorization of the rules,” said Maram Salaheldin, ‘13. “Most importantly though, he is a very charismatic and dynamic person, drawing in every student in the class, even in an over 100-student class.”
