Why Give?

Improving environmental regulation in Beijing. Advocating against genetic discrimination in Washington. Fostering debate on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in Baltimore. Faculty at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law improve law and society through teaching, scholarship, and public service. They act as a magnetic force, attracting talented students from Maryland and across the country. These students come to study -- then stay to live, work and lead.

For nearly 200 years, the School of Law has been an engine for leadership in law, business, government and the public sector. As we approach our third century, the law faces unprecedented challenges. Global commerce, information privacy, the war on terror, climate change, and intractable urban crime are but a handful of the urgent concerns reshaping the legal landscape. We seek to train lawyers equipped to lead in this new century.

This mission will require the most capable students, the very best faculty, an international perspective, a multi-disciplinary approach, and a deep engagement with practice-based learning grounded in Baltimore and reaching out across the globe.

Through your generous support, we are attaining these goals. Together, we will continue to make an impact by advancing justice, improving law and society, and educating future leaders for our state, region, and nation.
