The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law has launched a new Business Fellowship Program to place law students and recent graduates in Baltimore-area businesses.
Brown Advisory, The Cordish Companies, Greenberg Gibbons and the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) are inaugural partners in Maryland Carey Law’s year-long postgraduate fellowship.
T. Rowe Price, FutureCare and LifeBridge Health are participating in the 10-week summer fellowship.
The new initiative is designed to help Maryland companies and institutions meet their business and legal needs while providing growth opportunities for the next generation of law and business leaders.
“Working in a business will provide our students and recent graduates with practical experience and insight that will speed their transition to long-term employment in the business sector,” said Dean Donald B. Tobin, who has made this program a top priority for Maryland Carey Law.
Modeled after the judicial clerkship and internship experience, the Maryland Carey Law Business Fellowship Program offers fellows professional employment, mentoring, and a stipend with Baltimore-area businesses and organizations. Fellows will work in a corporate counsel’s office or in business operations.
“We have extraordinary alumni and friends who have stepped forward to make the Business Fellowship Program a reality,” Tobin said. “We are extremely grateful for their support.”
The program’s postgraduate business fellowships are open to new Maryland Carey Law alumni who will work for 12 months. The fellows’ responsibilities will be tailored to meet the legal and business needs of each employer, who will also cover the fellow’s stipend.
